Picture was pretty clear compared to other cameras I had before. I don't know about the license plate recognition part. I would probably need to zooom in on the lens for it to work right. Knowing how cameras work, there's no way it's possible to get a wide angle view and would still get a license plate. But that's how it is, you can't accomplish two things with one camera. It's just not possible to do that. But it's great that you can manually adjust the lens if you wanted to. Definitely worth to buy! This review is from: Zmodo Surveillance CM-S34909BG High Resolution Vari-Focal Weatherproof Security CCD IR Camera Retail (Electronics) I bought this camera thinking it would help me recognize the licence plates of cars passing in front of my street.Camera is set at around(50 degree (acute) angle. The camera is about 9 feet away from the street.Does not recognize licence plate numbers as described. I've had it for a couple of months and has been working fine with no problems, with the exception of the licence plate recognition. At night it gets a good image, but there is a little lighting (city lights)that helps it, to where it doesn't turn black & white. It keeps recording in color at lower resoultion than during the day.
