5.0 out of 5 stars Great product, Stupid insurance, July 2, 2010

This review is from: California Sun Sniper Steel-Steel Reinforced Padded Camera Sniper Strap (Black) (Electronics)
I love the product. It's exactly what the description says it is: comfortable, convenient, and the embedded steel wire certainly brings peace of mind. If the product looks like something you'd want, it will most likely suit your needs beautifully. The elastic-y bounce controller makes for an especially comfortable camera-lugging experience.

However.

The $500 dollar insurance (on the model with the steel wire insert) should not factor into your purchase decision. First of all, I purchased this product in July and the insurance expires on October 1st. That's 3 months.

Second, for legal reasons, this insurance is offered for free to the consumer, i.e. not embedded into the price. I've noticed that some of these straps are selling at a higher price "with insurance" and for less without. Do not be fooled, they all come with the insurance. Get the cheapest one you can.

Third, to cash in on the insurance, one must submit 1) a police report... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Ideal when carrying 2 camera-bodies, December 16, 2009
This review is from: California Sun Sniper Steel-Steel Reinforced Padded Camera Sniper Strap (Black) (Electronics)
My initial impression is that it will easily hold a professional or prosumer camera body with a 70-200mm.

I typically carry two bodies which I used to do one in a strap, and another also with a strap but carried in a bag. But bec. I typically bring a Nikon D700+MB-D10 with a 24-70mm and a Nikon D300+MB-D10 with a 70-200mm, I needed to use a back-strapped bag to carry the 2nd body. This makes it very slowly and cumbersome for me to switch from one body to another.

The SSS allows me to carry two bodies without need to resort to a bag. I typically put on the SSS first, and my standard camera strap (Tamrac Boomerang) 2nd. This arrangement allows me to easily access both bodies very easily and quickly.

The one major downside or adjustment I needed to make is to remove the Nikon MB-D10 Battery Pack from my body as it is unlikely that the one-screw mounting of the battery pack to the body will be able to safely hold up the weight, specially if I am using... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars I'll Never Go Back!, October 11, 2010
This review is from: California Sun Sniper Steel-Steel Reinforced Padded Camera Sniper Strap (Black) (Electronics)
Quick assess to my camera is as advertised. Carrying the camera upside down and low has proven to put the camera at no more risk than any other carrying position I have tried. In fact , I would contend it is at less risk since unlike the traditional strap I never need to remove the Sun Sniper from my neck or shoulder to take a picture so the chance of dropping the camera when doing so is eliminated. I have used the strap to comfortably carry lenses as big and heavy as the Sigma 120-400 on a D-SLR that also mounted a battery drive. When walking, you will want to keep a hand lightly on the camera to keep it from moving around, but it is easy to adjust the strap to a length that makes resting a hand on it comfortable and ready to bring the camera up for a shot.
