My concerns were stabilizing my 24-70mm 2.8L, but not getting bogged down with weight and the complication of a tripod. Plus, we would be inside at some points, so that means low light and crowds. This thing exceeded my expectations to say the least! The quality is outstanding. The sections are snug, yet slide open with ease. The locks are simple and do not slip at all. What really caught me off guard is how light it is. I can extend this thing above eye level, yet it weighs practically nothing. Absolutely perfect for travelling (especially with the 70). I didn't order a head with it, so I threw on a Joby ballhead I have just to check it out. It fit so well that I decided to keep it on there. Makes for a very light, versatile and professional looking rig. I don't have a tripod, yet, and was considering the Manfrotto 190. However, the quality of this monopod is so good that I think I'm going to go with one of their carbon tripods, too... It is, however, not a Gitzo for a fraction of the price.The good: It is light, the sections are strong, the locks hold well, and the extended monopod is rigid without transmitting undo resonance. The head mount is secure and the hardware (such as it is) appears corrosion resistant. The bad: The rubber foot is glued on, preventing use of a spike or replacement. The locks, while fairly dirt resistant, are neigh impossible to service in the field, The head set screw is inaccessible without full disassembly. The customer service is non-existent: I registered the product, contacted customer with a question (regarding the inaccessible set screw) via email AND snail mail, and have nothing to show for it outside junk mail. |
