| 7 of 7 people found the following review helpful  RX-1000i - Leica CRF 1600 comparo, By This review is from: Leupold RX-1000I with DNA Compact Digital Laser Rangefinder (Sports) I purchased both units to compare the two, after which I took both the Leica CRF 1600 and the Leupold RX-1000i on a test run. Both units operated similarly. Press the POWER button once to turn it on, then press again to activate the rangefinder. I ranged the Leica out to at least 1300 yards, using a forest as a "target." The numbers on the display of the CRF are thinner, while those on the Leupold are far larger. Other than thickness of the numbers on the display and the small reticular "square" that is to fit over the target on the CRF, and the larger reticle-type center-finder on the Leupold display, I found that either reticle would work equally effectively.I found that the lens in the CRF was marginally more crisp than that of the Leupold. I had to really look into the rangefinders going from one to the other, but it was still difficult to decide which lens was the clearer. From a hunting standpoint, I frankly didn't see any meaningful differences in clarity. The power... My previous laser range finder (LRF) was a Nikon 440 that I had purchased when they first came out. I was luck to be able to range something past 275 yds let alone 400 yds with that. Nikon makes wonderful products and all of my scopes are Nikon's, so I am not a hater of all things Nikon. I just think that their LRF's are lacking, as I bought the Nikon 1000 to try out and ended up returning it for the Leupold.With this one, the display is super bright, easy to read, and gives you a ball park for your hold overs at distance. I was easily able to range whitetails in the 800 yds range. For a LRF in this price range and for the functionality that it has, I am very pleased with it. I am an Oregon Master Hunter and hunt year round. I hunt in the mountains of Oregon where the animal you are hunting is both illusive and quick. I needed a rangefinder that was easy to use, quick to range, account for slope and weight of projectile, and easy to read results. It also had to be rugged and waterproof. After trying many many rangefinders I selected the Leupold RX-1000i, it met all of my criteria and has all of the features I wanted. There are some more expensive and some cheaper, but with this one is well worth the price and has all of the features any hunter needs. I liked it enough I bought a second one for my Son who hunts in Texas and here in Oregon with me. I would recommend the Leupold RX-1000i TBR, DNA to anyone. |
